Apple filed a lawsuit against penAI and two former Apple employes on Wednesday, accusing them of misappropriating trade secrets belonging to the iPhone manufacturer in order to promote the ChatGPT manufacturer’s entrance into consumer hardware. penAI urged a judge in the United States to reject the action.
Apple’s trade secrets are not anything that OpenAI needs, wants, or uses in any way. The lawyers for OpenAI argued in the application to dismiss that was submitted on Wednesday that the company is “building something that is completely new and different from anything that Apple has ever done.
“OpenAI does have an interest in hiring the best engineers, inventors, developers, and creators,” they continued. “Many of these individuals have decided to leave Apple and come to OpenAI because they are attracted to the innovative and exciting work that the company is doing.
OpenAI was accused of orchestrating a comprehensive attempt to systematically obtain and abuse Apple’s secret knowledge thru former employes, recruiting tactics, and supplier ties in order to speed Apple’s drive into the consumer hardware industry. Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in July, accusing it of orchestrating this broad endeavor.
