Unitree CEO Predicts a ‘ChatGPT Moment’ for Robots

After the company’s successful Shanghai IPO solidified China’s aspirations to lead the next frontier of AI-powered machines, the CEO of Chinese humanoid robot startup Unitree stated on Thursday that the sector is moving closer to a “ChatGPT moment” for robot brains.

A day after jumping over sixfold in their market debut, shares of China’s most well-known humanoid robot manufacturer plummeted 11% on Thursday, demonstrating significant investor enthusiasm for a young industry with strong Beijing support. At a significant robot conference in Beijing, Wang Xingxing, the founder and CEO of the Hangzhou-based business, stated, “We are marching toward a ‘ChatGPT moment’ in embodied intelligence.

ChatGPT’s groundbreaking broad language model in late 2022 was the catalyst for the worldwide AI boom that has completely changed the global economy and led to widespread adoption. According to Wang, the industry is getting close to a breakthrough where robots can be placed in unfamiliar surroundings and accomplish the majority of duties with simply voice or text instructions. However, there hasn’t yet been a corresponding turning point for world models. In the future, we aim to see a robot that can effectively complete about 80% of duties when given speech or text commands in an unknown home,” he stated
