Jeddah Islamic Port now offers an RC2 shipping service through Ocean Network Express, which has established a connection between the Saudi gateway and ports in China, Jordan, and Egypt. This comes as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia works to increase its maritime connections.
According to the Saudi Ports Authority, also known as Mawani, the service connects Jeddah with Shanghai, Ningbo, and Nansha in China, as well as Aqaba in Jordan and Sokhna in Egypt. It can transport up to 1,643 twenty-foot equivalent units.
In order to strengthen its position as a global logistics hub, the Kingdom is making investments in the capacity of its ports and in the connectivity between them. As part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to strengthen its maritime and logistics infrastructure in accordance with Vision 2030, the provision of this new service further improves Jeddah Islamic Port’s worldwide connectivity.
According to Mawani, “The addition of the new service contributes to strengthening the Kingdom’s presence on the international maritime transport map.” This statement also confirms the readiness of Jeddah Islamic Port’s advanced infrastructure and its capacity to accommodate more shipping services. This is due to the port’s high cargo-handling levels and operational efficiency.
Additionally, in a separate development, the French shipping and logistics giant CMA CGM and the Saudi terminal operator Red Sea Gateway Terminal announced definitive agreements to jointly develop and manage Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port.
