In a Suspected Racist Attack in a Paris Suburb, a Gunman Killed one and Wounded five Others

On Friday, a gunman opened fire from a car west of Paris, killing one and injuring five others, three of whom were critically injured. Authorities assume the shooter was motivated by Islamophobia. The inquiry is underway, but it is undoubtedly a terrorist crime. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the incident in the Yvelines neighbourhood west of Paris as “extremely serious.”

The 39-year-old suspect, who has not been identified, drove through Trappes, firing an automatic rifle at a petrol station, medical center, and children’s playground. According to Nuñez, the rampage lasted approximately 15 minutes. A 12-year-old girl is among those injured.

According to BFM, the girl was seriously injured after being hit eight times. The cause is unknown, although the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) stated that the occurrence seemed to be “murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise”.

Trappes Mayor Ali Rabeh reported that “an individual fired shots from his vehicle at several people he encountered” early Friday morning.Rabeh, whose parents are Moroccan, stated that the incident was plainly racist and most likely Islamophobic. “The people targeted today could just as easily have been my mother, my brothers or my sisters-in-law.
