PORT HURON, Michigan: US President Donald Trump on Sunday stepped up his rhetoric against Norway, calling it a “shit house country” and declaring Norwegian immigrants are not welcome in the United States because the Nobel committee, based in the capital Oslo, has not awarded him a Peace Prize.
Trump made the statements at a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of the midterm elections next week. Trump blamed the recent riots in France on immigration and said he would welcome immigrants from some countries but not from Norway “because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize So I don’t want nobody from Norway.
There was no sign the Trump administration was establishing a new formal policy against Norwegian immigrants. Norway has actually become a shit house country,” Trump remarked, using a word he has used before for Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
Norway ranks among the countries with the highest GDP per capita, according to the International Monetary Fund. Norway’s public wealth fund reported a record profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian crowns ($184.3 billion) for 1H 2026. Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not immediately respond to calls for comment outside regular business hours.
