RIYADH During the holy month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Tourism has stepped up its monitoring and inspection programs targeting lodging establishments and travel agencies in Makkah and Madinah. This is by the directions of Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khateeb, who wants to ensure that pilgrims and tourists to Umrah receive the finest services possible and that their concerns and grievances are properly addressed.
During the final ten days of Ramadan, the ministry increased the number of personnel working in the operation rooms set up in Makkah and Madinah for this specific purpose. As a result, there were more supervisory and inspection tours conducted.
In Makkah, the ministry conducted over 900 excursions and noted over 160 infractions, 140 of which were related to poor quality of services, while 24 were about activities without a license.
The Saudi Press Agency said that the ministry conducted more than 210 supervision and inspection trips in Madinah and found 60 infractions, of which 54 were poor service quality and six involved unlicensed activity.
These trips are evidence of the ministry’s eagerness to follow the wise leadership’s instructions and ensure pilgrims and guests receive first-rate services.
The government claims that during Ramadan, complaints regarding lodging and tourist services are constantly received by operation rooms in Makkah and Madinah. More than 220 complaints were received in Madinah and over 1,060 in Makkah to date, and all of them were resolved in less than a day.
