RIYADH On Tuesday, the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) opened the first phase of E-Gates at King Khalid International Airport, which has Terminals 3 and 4.
By implementing biometric e-passport scanners, Riyadh airport has become the first in Saudi Arabia to offer this innovative technology to expedite passenger travel procedures and create a smooth experience for foreign tourists.
The President of the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA), the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Lt. Gen. Sulaiman Al-Yahya, the Director General of Jawazat, and the Director of the National Information Center (NIC), Esam Alwagait, were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Lt. Gen. Al-Yahya emphasized that the goal of King Khalid International Airport’s installation of e-gates is to facilitate travelers’ completion of their travel procedures independently, without the need for human intervention. He stressed that travelers whose biometric traits (fingerprints) are stored in the passport systems will benefit from these gates in terms of time and effort savings.
According to Jawazat’s head, the launch of the e-gate is part of the company’s continuous endeavors to improve travel procedures for citizens, foreign nationals, and tourists and increase its services by introducing compelling, intelligent, and digital solutions.
According to GACA Chief Al-Duailej, the introduction of passport self-service validates the critical role that the civil aviation system and its partners from government agencies play in utilizing digitization and self-services to enhance traveler experiences in compliance with the highest international standards.
