After Being Postponed, Iran And the US will Restart Nuclear Negotiations on Sunday

DUBAI: Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi announced Friday that Iran and the United States have reached an agreement to convene a fourth round of nuclear talks in Oman on Sunday, and that the talks are progressing.

In the event that a new agreement is not reached to settle the long-running conflict, US President Donald Trump, who pulled Washington from a 2015 agreement between Tehran and other powers intended to constrain its nuclear development, has threatened to strike Iran.

Western nations claim that Iran’s nuclear program, which Tehran expanded following the US withdrawal from the now-defunct 2015 agreement, is intended to produce weapons, while Iran maintains that it is only for civilian use.

According to Iranian official media, Aragchi stated, “The negotiations are proceeding, and naturally, the further we go, the more consultations and reviews are needed.” The delegations need additional time to consider the problems brought up. However, the fact that we are going forward and progressively getting into the specifics is what matters. Mediator Oman cited “logistical reasons” for delaying the fourth session of indirect discussions, which had been originally planned for May 3 in Rome.
