RIYADH: The Saudi Press Agency said Wednesday that several drug-related arrests and seizures were made throughout the Kingdom by Saudi authorities. Five Ethiopians were detained by Border Guard land patrols in the Asir region’s Al-Raboah sector for smuggling 100 kg of qat.
Three Yemenis and Ethiopians were detained by officials in the Jazan region’s Al-Dayer governorate for smuggling 90 kg of qat. In the same governorate, ground patrols prevented the smuggling of 59,210 tablets that were subject to medical circulation laws. A person was also detained by Jazan authorities for trafficking shabu, another name for methamphetamine.
All seized materials were turned over to the appropriate authorities after the completion of preliminary legal procedures. The public has been asked by authorities to report drug smuggling or sales by dialing 999 in other areas or 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province. The General Directorate of Narcotics Control can also receive reports, in strict confidentiality, by phone at 995 or by email at 995@gdnc.gov.sa.
