MANILA: The first group of Filipino pilgrims leaving Manila for Madinah to participate in this year’s Hajj was sent off on Monday by Philippine officials and the ambassador of Saudi Arabia. One of the principles of Islam is the spiritual pilgrimage, which 5,000 Filipino Muslims are scheduled to go on.
At the Manila airport, hundreds of them were escorted by Saudi Ambassador Faisal bin Ibrahim Al-Ghamdi as they were ready to board aircraft run by Saudia, the Kingdom’s flag carrier. He told the pilgrims, “As you set out on this holy journey, I pray that your Hajj is accepted, your efforts are rewarded, and your deeds are righteous.
About 10% of the 110 million people in the nation, who are primarily Catholic, are Muslims. Most reside in the central-western province of Palawan, the Sulu archipelago, and the southern island of Mindanao.
Since the yearly pilgrimage is anticipated to start on June 4, the final special Hajj aircraft bringing Filipino Muslims to Saudi Arabia will leave on May 29.
During the farewell ceremony, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos chairman Sabuddin Abdurahim remarked, “May your hearts be filled with peace, prosperity, and gratitude as you embark on this sacred journey to the blessed place.
