ALULA: On January 23 and 24, more than 1,450 competitors will compete on multiple courses in the highly anticipated AlUla Trail Race. According to its website, the competition, which offers six courses for a wide range of ages, including the 100-kilometer Hegra Hundred Ultra-Marathon, is nearly sold out. There will be a 1.6-kilometer kids’ run and a 3-kilometer sunset run during this year’s AlUla Trail Race weekend. Those who want to push themselves can participate in the 10-kilometer AlUla Oasis Run.
With a prize fund of SR136,000 this year, the 100-kilometer Hegra Hundred Ultra-Marathon champion will take home SR20,000. The podium finishers in the 50 km Al-Mejdar Ultra-Marathon, 23 km Elephant Rock Run, and 10 km AlUla Oasis Run will also get cash prizes. AlUla, which is located northwest Saudi Arabia, provides runners the opportunity to traverse historic routes that were historically used by pilgrims and traders due to its distinctive and breathtaking landscape.
Towering rock structures, lush green oasis, and expansive desert vistas encircle the region. The Race Village will have live entertainment, food trucks, speciality coffee and chances to learn about AlUla’s incredible history in addition to the races. For post-race treatment, runners will also have access to recovery areas with physiotherapy facilities.
