RIYADH: A variety of date products and their history are on display at an exhibition that Saudi Arabia’s environment minister unveiled in Riyadh.

The National Center for Palms and Dates held the 2024 International Dates Conference and Exhibition, formally opened by Saudi Environment, Water, and Agriculture Minister Abdulrahman Al-Fadli. Approximately 100 domestic and foreign organizations are involved, and it runs until November 28. The event’s organizers describe it as a “global platform to showcase Saudi dates, drive innovation in their processing industries, and enhance their global export potential. Dates from the various parts of the Kingdom, such as Al-Ahsa, Al-Qassim, Al-Ula, and Al-Jouf, are available for visitors to sample.

A range of entertainment events, including folklore performances, local poetry contests, and culinary contests, are also part of the display. Al-Madinah Heritage Company, a division of the Public Investment Fund, introduced a carbonated date drink with sugar added on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony.

The display also includes a museum that takes guests on a historical tour to learn about the more than 1,000-year history of palm palms.
