One Indian national was killed in an attack on MV Cape Dao as the vessel was sailing toward India, the Indian embassy in Oman said Wednesday. Other crew members were evacuated safely and the event sparked a fire on board, stated Oman’s Maritime Security Center.
The Indian embassy said it was closely monitoring the attack on the MV Cape Dao and coordinating with Omani authorities on the safety of all crew members on board. The crew of the vessel comprised 20 Indian citizens.
We are terribly pained by the loss of an Indian national in this tragedy. “We express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” the Embassy in Muscat said, adding that it was cooperating with the RPSL and was in touch with the family. The ship was struck around 2.5 nautical miles from the Governorate of Musandam, and all 27 crew members were evacuated and received the required medical attention. The incident set the engine room on fire and killed one crew member, Oman’s Maritime Security Center said.
New Delhi: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday condemned the attack on the vessel off the east coast of Oman. “Out of the 20 Indian seafarers onboard, 19 have been rescued and 1 Indian national has lost his life tragically. Our sincere condolences go to the family of the deceased. Our Embassy in Oman is closely watching the situation and proactively coordinating with the Omani authorities for early repatriation of Indian mariners. “The ministry appreciates the support of the Omani authorities,” it stated in a statement.
