Macron to Host a Gaza Conference With Egyptian and Jordanian Leaders

PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Saturday that he will convene a trilateral conference on the situation in Gaza with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

Israel has pushed to grab territory in Gaza after the collapse of a brief truce in its war with Hamas, claiming it is part of a strategy to force the terrorists to release captives still held captive. Israel has simultaneously increased its attacks on Lebanon and Syria.

In response to the Gaza crisis, and during my travel to Egypt at President El-Sisi’s request, we will hold a trilateral summit with the Egyptian president and Jordan’s King,” Macron wrote on X before his trip.

The French president is set to arrive in Cairo on Sunday evening and hold meetings with his Egyptian counterpart on Monday morning.
According to Macron’s office, the trilateral summit will take place on the same day in Egypt’s capital.

On Tuesday, Macron will also travel to the Egyptian port of El-Arish, 50 kilometres (30 miles) west of the Gaza Strip, to meet with humanitarian and security personnel and display his “constant mobilisation in favour of a ceasefire.” El-Arish serves as a transit point for international humanitarian aid bound for Gaza.
