RIYADH: According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the Shoura Council of Saudi Arabia has requested research on creating metro systems in the Kingdom’s largest cities. The council ordered the Public Transport Authority on Tuesday to increase the number of training courses that the Saudi Logistics Academy offers. Council members also underlined the significance of raising the bar for assessing the calibre of pilgrim shuttle transport services to guarantee effectiveness.
They emphasised the need to expand the Kingdom’s railway system’s passenger capacity and speed up trains to catch up to the Haramain High-Speed Railway, which transports pilgrims between the holy towns of Makkah and Madinah.
The metro system in Riyadh went into full operation in January after opening in December of previous year. Additionally, the Kingdom has a network of passenger railways that link Riyadh with the Northern Borders and Eastern Province areas. Improving the public transport system is one of the nation’s Vision 2030 objectives in order to reduce carbon emissions and ease urban traffic congestion.
The council advised the Public Transport Authority to expand the Saudi Logistics Academy’s training programs. Council members again underlined the significance of enhancing the criteria used to assess the calibre of pilgrim shuttle transport services.
