Next Month, the COP16 Green Zone in Riyadh will Hold the 4th Saudi Green Initiative Forum

RIYADH: On Thursday, the Saudi Green Initiative said that the SGI Forum 2024, with the subject “Action is in our nature,” will be held from December 3–4.

Now in its fourth year, the premier climate and environmental action event will make its first trip back to Riyadh since it was introduced in 2021 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the prime minister and head of the Supreme Committee for the Saudi Green Initiative. The 16th session of the Conference of the Parties, or COP16, of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, or UNCCD, will take place in 2024, coinciding with the SGI Forum.

According to a news statement from SGI, the largest-ever UNCCD meeting, the first to take place in the Middle East, and the largest international conference hosted by Saudi Arabia will be the Riyadh COP16 (Dec. 2–13).

A special SGI Pavilion in the UNCCD COP16 Green Zone will host hundreds of policymakers, business executives, and subject-matter experts from around the globe for this year’s SGI Forum.Since the launch of SGI, a significant positive impact has been achieved, with 4+ GW of renewable energy capacity installed, more than 95 million trees and shrubs planted, and more than 1,660 endangered animals re-wilded across the Kingdom.
