Rubio Refrains From Calling Putin a War Criminal.

Washington: On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio refrained from labelling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “war criminal,” stating that talks to resolve the crisis in Ukraine should take precedence.

During a tense congressional session, Democratic Representative Bill Keating questioned Rubio about his continued belief that Putin is a “war criminal,” recalling his harsh criticism of Putin’s conduct while the top US ambassador was a senator. Our goal right now is to end that war, but there will be accountability for the crimes committed in the war on Ukraine,” Rubio stated.

Because, let me tell you, more people are dead, more are injured, and, to be honest, more war crimes are being done every single day the conflict continues,” he continued. Keating criticised Rubio for being “equivocating” and “inconsistent.” Later, in response to a fellow Republican, Rubio stated that communicating with Russia was beneficial.

According to Rubio, “the world might have ended during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961 if there had not been communications between the US and Russia. In his most recent, so far fruitless, attempt to halt the fighting, President Donald Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday.
