The Capacity of Riyadh Airport has been Expanded to Accommodate 7 Million People

RIYADH: On January 8, the first stage of the Terminal 1 extension at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was opened, increasing the airport’s annual passenger capacity to up to 7 million. Saleh Al-Jasser, the General Authority of Civil Aviation’s chairman and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, was present at the ceremony. The aviation industry in Saudi Arabia has grown significantly, as seen by record passenger volumes, a growing fleet, and new foreign alliances that all support the goals of the nation’s Vision 2030.

For several months in 2024, King Khalid International Airport, in particular, has maintained its position as the Kingdom’s best airport, meeting the highest operational and compliance criteria. Following the completion of Terminals 3 and 4 in November 2022, Terminal 1 will be expanded.

The phased extension will raise Terminal 1’s yearly passenger capacity from 3 million to 7 million, Al-Jasser stressed in his remarks. This improvement is a component of a larger plan to upgrade Terminals 1 and 2, supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives to fortify the country’s transportation network, better the traveler experience, and boost economic growth via improved air connectivity.
