Iran threatened “long and painful strikes” on US installations if Washington renewed attacks and reaffirmed its claim to the Strait of Hormuz. This complicates US efforts for a coalition to restore the canal.
According to Iran’s official media SNN, Aerospace Force Commander Majid Mousavi stated, “We’ve seen what happened to your regional bases; we’ll see the same thing happen to your warships. Mousavi was replying to claims made by the US military’s CENTCOM commander asserting the effectiveness of the US blockade of Iran, according to SNN.
The aerospace commander’s statement came after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei assured Iran that “the enemies’ abuses of the waterway” would be addressed under new management of the strait, implying that Tehran wanted to maintain control of it.
In a written address to Iranians, Khamenei stated that Tehran will eradicate “the enemies’ abuses of the waterway” under new management of the strait, signaling their intention to maintain control. Foreigners who come from thousands of kilometres away have no place there except at the bottom of its waters,” he stated.
