Trump Issues Ultimatum to Hamas: Can a Gaza Deal Be Reached?

Trump Issues Ultimatum to Hamas

US President Donald Trump has given Hamas a deadline of “three or four days” to respond to a new proposal for Gaza, as the group considers the plan supported by Israel. The proposal outlines a ceasefire, release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, full disarmament of the militant group, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. After the withdrawal, a post-war transitional authority would be established with Trump himself at the helm.

The plan has gained support from several world powers, including Arab and Muslim nations, though Hamas has yet to issue an official response. Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Trump said, “We’re going to do about three or four days. We’re just waiting for Hamas, and Hamas is either going to be doing it or not. And if it’s not, it’s going to be a very sad end.” Trump formally announced the proposal at the White House following talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

A Palestinian source, who asked to remain anonymous, shared that Hamas has begun internal discussions among its political and military leaders, both in Palestine and abroad, regarding the proposal. The discussions could take several days due to the complexities,” the source noted.
