14 Sculptures Go on Display in Riyadh’s Public Spaces: A New Cultural Experience

RIYADH: On Wednesday, fourteen sculptures chosen from the yearly international Tuwaiq Sculpture symposium, a Riyadh Art program, were on display at three notable public locations in the Saudi capital: Sports Boulevard, the SEDRA residential complex, and ROSHN Front. The project is part of Riyad Art’s initiative to display artwork in public areas; additional pieces in other locations are planned.

This step reflects (Riyadh Art’s) vision of weaving beauty and intellect into the city’s fabric, and creating vibrant and culturally rich public spaces, allowing art to become an integral part of people’s daily lives,” stated Khalid Al-Hazani, executive vice president of the lifestyle sector at the Royal Commission for Riyadh City.

He noted that it is also consistent with Riyadh Art’s larger plan to turn the city into an outdoor art gallery, “turning art into a central element of the city’s identity and a key contributor to improving quality of life and promoting the cultural economy. This gives locals and tourists the chance to interact with the sculptures in their daily lives,” he stated.

ROSHN Front, a major urban center, is home to seven sculptures. According to the organizers, the artworks on show create a stimulating artistic landscape that fosters interaction and explore a variety of subjects, including the ideals of urban change, communal spirit, and creative curiosity.
