Strong Corporate Forecasts Spark Historic Stock Market Gains

Tuesday saw a significant increase in stock indices, with the Dow and S&P 500 reaching all-time highs in response to optimistic projections from Caterpillar and other businesses. Additionally, oil prices continued their recent steep drops. A record intraday high was also reached by a global stock index. Following last week’s joint action by Tokyo and Washington to support the currency, the Japanese yen declined but retained the majority of its gains from intervention.

Oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz could be improved by a diplomatic settlement to the Iranian conflict, according to remarks made by U.S. and Qatari officials. Although a formal agreement has not yet been reached, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Tuesday that negotiations with Iran and Oman to let more ships through the strait were progressing.

A deal to reopen the strait with Iran might happen as early as Tuesday or Wednesday, according to earlier remarks made by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Brent sank to $79.38 per barrel, down 5.24% on the day, while U.S. crude fell 5.43% to $75.98 per barrel.
