ALKHOBAR: Saudi Arabia issued two royal directives on Thursday, converting the national Ehsan philanthropic platform into an independent nonprofit foundation and appointing its board of trustees, the Saudi Press Agency said.
According to the initial order, the platform will become the Ehsan Charitable Foundation, an autonomous nonprofit entity dedicated to increasing charitable activity and linking contributors with beneficiaries. The foundation will also allow individuals and businesses to make donations, as well as collaborate with government and private-sector groups to improve the effectiveness of the Kingdom’s nonprofit sector.
A second royal edict appointed the foundation’s board of trustees to a three-year term that might be renewed. Minister of Commerce Majid Al-Qasabi will preside over the board, with Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Ahmed Al-Rajhi acting as vise chairman.
Al-Qasabi stated that the move marked a new chapter in Ehsan’s evolution, offering the organization more power and flexibility as Saudi Arabia’s nonprofit sector grows. He went on to say that the transformation would assist Ehsan respond to industry changes and promote Vision 2030 objectives by improving efficiency and increasing social and economic impact.
