An oil tanker was hit and destroyed by a missile in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, according to a British maritime agency that reported the incident early on Tuesday morning. The incident caused damage but did not result in any casualties.
As stated by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, “The Master of an oil tanker reports that the vessel has been struck by an unknown projectile, causing damage to the engine room and rendering the vessel disabled.” The crew has been reported to be safe.
According to what was reported, the event took place nine nautical miles (16.7 km) northeast of Ash Shishah in the Sultanate of Oman.
The web statement did not provide any information regarding the country of the vessel or the route of travel.
Since late February, when the United States and Israel attacked Iran, Tehran has effectively blocked the strait. It also intends to charge for passage, and it has attacked ships it believes are trying to avoid the route it prefers.
On Monday, the United States Treasury Secretary Scott Besent presented his plans for the “economic asphyxiation” of Iran. These plans were made while the conflict in the Middle East was getting closer to its sixth month.
