Grand Mosque Moves Closer to Being a Monument

Grand Mosque Moves Closer to Being a Monument

RIYADH: By 2030, the Grand Mosque will be among the smartest locations in the world thanks to ongoing digital projects that are speeding up operations and improving service efficiency, according to SPA. According to Dr Mohammed Al-Saqr, deputy CEO for Digital Transformation at the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of The Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the authority’s smart mobility platform has automated transit services and integrated electronic booking and payment, cutting pilgrim wait times from about two hours three years ago to about nine minutes during the most recent Hajj season.

The Grand Mosque’s iftar meal operations, which distribute over 38 million meals with transaction values close to SR500 million, have also been modernised by digital transformation. Administrative clearance times have decreased from eight days to roughly eight minutes thanks to automation, integration with the national Ehsan charity platform, and third-party oversight.

Additionally, as the authority increases the use of smart technology in both holy mosques, the “Rafed” platform links 18 government agencies to handle field reports, and an interactive digital mapping system manages about 600,000 cases a year, serving almost 10% of the six million annual visitors.
