Saudi Railroads: 40.9 Million Passenger Trips Registered in Q3 2026

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s rail passengers made more than 40.9 million journeys during the third quarter of 2026, SPA reported Tuesday. The quarterly indicator of the General Authority of Transportation recorded 30.4 million journeys on the Riyadh metro throughout the time.

Meanwhile, the Automated People Mover at King Abdulaziz International Airport transported 7 million people in the third quarter, up from 3.9 million in the second quarter. In the same period, intercity trains carried a total of 2.5 million people. More than 1.9 million of them were on the Haramain High-Speed Railway, linking Makkah and Madinah through Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport and King Abdullah Economic City, up from 1.6 million in the second quarter.

During the quarter, passengers made around 393,900 trips on Saudi Arabia Railroads’ East Network, which runs from Riyadh through Abqaiq and Hofuf to Dammam. The company’s North Network, which connects Riyadh to Majmaah, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf and Qurayyat, carried passengers for 258,600 journeys.

The TGA said the increase in train passenger numbers compared to the same quarter last year reflected rising demand for rail travel across the Kingdom. By comparison, overall journeys on trains in the second quarter were above 38 million.
