US Highlights Role in Gulf oil Trade Shipments as CENTCOM Leader Visits Hormuz

LONDON: US Central Command chief Brad Cooper flew over the Strait of Hormuz in a CH-47 Chinook chopper on Sunday as the command announced US forces have assisted Gulf allies in exporting more than 1.5 billion barrels of crude oil since the summer.

CENTCOM stated in a statement that over the past six months, US soldiers have helped more than 3,000 commercial vessels travel through the strait. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our Gulf partners and the shipping industry,” Cooper said, adding that his visit to the waterway “underscores our strong commitment to continued freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Maritimetraffic had picked up in recent months after US forces cleared international maritime lanes of sea mines set by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the command said.

Cooper spoke with US service troops who backed the mine-clearing mission and thanked them for their work during the visit. Thanks to great work by our people, primary transit routes in the Strait of Hormuz today remain free and clear of Iranian sea mines,” Cooper added.
