Sullivan of the White House is Visiting Saudi Arabia to Meet With MBS.

This week, as part of US efforts to normalize relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan will visit Saudi Arabia to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

After Palestinian Hamas fighters attacked southern Israel on October 7 and Israel launched an attack on Hamas-ruled Gaza, normalization talks had been suspended. However, in recent months, they have been restarted. According to a U.S. official, Sullivan scheduled a check-in meeting with the crown prince but did not anticipate a significant development.

Without a deadline for reaching an agreement, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on March 21 that the United States and Saudi Arabia had made “good progress” in their discussions to normalize relations between the kingdom and Israel. Saudi Arabia hopes to finalize a mutual defense agreement with Washington as part of a normalization deal and obtain American backing for its civilian nuclear program.

During his next visit to Riyadh, the US National Security Advisor will discuss relations with Saudi Arabia and Israel. After Palestinian Hamas fighters attacked southern Israel on October 7 and Israel launched an attack on Hamas-ruled Gaza, normalization talks had been suspended. However, in recent months, they have been restarted.
