RIYADH: The Saudi Press Agency announced on Friday that 35 Saudi students will participate in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair 2024, which will take place in Los Angeles from May 10–18.
They will compete in the ISEF, a pre-college competition in scientific research and innovation, alongside 1,700 other participants from 70 countries. The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity, or Mawhiba, and the Ministry of Education will appoint representatives to lead the Kingdom.
Experts and specialists connected to Mawhiba chose the Kingdom’s team earlier this year from among over 210,000 applicants. 180 of their projects were chosen after a rigorous evaluation process during the “Ibdaa” National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity.
According to the SPA, 35 gifted students were selected to represent the Kingdom in the ISEF out of the 45 students whose projects made it to the Olympiad finals. Al-Qarni explained that her research is aimed at developing sustainable solutions to this global issue, to conserve energy and ensure financial viability for crucial projects.
Areej Al-Qarni is one of these students, and she will present her studies on reducing dust buildup on solar panels. This issue results in millions of dollars’ worth of energy and financial losses.
