Riyadh: The Grand Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, is to use intelligent golf carts for pilgrims performing Sa’i, the ritual of walking back and forth seven times between the two hills of Safa and Marwa. This announcement was made by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
This occurs just a few days after the authorities established a golf cart service to facilitate tawaaf, or circumambulation, in the Grand Mosque for the elderly and disabled. The service cuts the length of tawaaf in half.
According to the government, approved pilgrims can access the golf cart site via the King Abdulaziz Gate Elevators, Umrah Gate Elevators, and Ajyad Escalators. The golf cart is available for use twelve hours a day, from 4:00 pm to 4:00 am.
According to the authority, the service costs SR25 per person, value-added tax included, and is exclusively available for performing tawaf. Fifty golf carts with ten passenger capacities can be used for tawaf. According to the authorities, tickets can be bought at the points of sale situated on the Grand Mosque’s roof to use the carts.
