LONDON: On Thursday, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss the situation in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. According to the Petra news agency, the king underlined the necessity of increased international cooperation to end the conflict in Gaza and guarantee the flow of supplies into the Palestinian territory.
He also emphasised the significance of the UK’s initiatives in bringing peace and security.The monarch reiterated Jordan’s opposition to the eviction of Palestinians and issued a warning about the “dangers” presented by Israel’s operations in the occupied West Bank and attacks on Christian and Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem.
London and Amman will continue to work together to achieve a ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid,” Starmer said, adding that the two-state option was the only long-term solution to the crisis.
Jordan’s ambassador to the UK, Manar Dabbas, Director of the King’s Office, Alaa Batayneh, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, joined King Abdullah on his tour. Safadi also met with David Lammy, the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom.
