The President of the UAE Talks with a Delegation From Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi

According to state news agency WAM, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan met with an Afghan delegation on Tuesday that was led by Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

There were discussions on bilateral relations and regional stability during the gathering, which was held at Qasr Al-Shati in Abu Dhabi.

According to WAM, “the talks covered topics related to economic and development as well as assistance for reconstruction and development in Afghanistan.”

After the US-backed government fell and its commanders went into exile, the Taliban administration came into control in August 2021.

Although some nations, like China, have maintained their embassies open and accepted Taliban diplomats, no nation has recognized the Taliban authority.

Beijing recognizes the current leadership of Afghanistan, but has welcomed Bilal Karimi, a former spokesman for the Taliban, as an official envoy.

Beijing’s acceptance of a Taliban envoy was previously explained by Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, as follows: “China hopes that Afghanistan will further respond to the expectations of the international community, building an open and inclusive political framework, implementing moderate and prudent domestic and foreign policies, resolutely combating all kinds of terrorist forces.”
