AI behemoth Anthropic announced on Monday that it has secretly submitted for a U.S. IPO, setting up what might be a turning point in Wall Street’s AI craze. The action poses a high-stakes test of whether investor enthusiasm for the AI revolution, which has transformed white-collar jobs globally, will match the extraordinarily high expectations for the rapidly expanding industry.
The terms and size of the offering were not disclosed by Anthropic, the company that runs the AI chatbot Claude. It surpassed rival OpenAI in late May when it raised $65 billion at a post-money valuation of $965 billion.
Following SpaceX’s massive initial public offering (IPO), which is expected to set new records as the Elon Musk-led business chases a $75 billion offering at a $1.75 trillion valuation, comes the critical step toward a listing.
The AI boom, which has altered corporate plans, ignited a worldwide arms race for talent and processing capacity, and made AI-related businesses some of the most valuable in the market, has been personified by rival OpenAI and Anthropic. After raising $30 billion in a funding round in February, Anthropic’s worth more than doubled to $380 billion.
